Omonia through Paola' s eyes

UrbanDig Project and Alternative Tours of Athens co-organized an unconventional “Omonia Tour” guided by Paola Revenioti. The dominant narration of the past, describing Omonia as an erotic and underground square, emerged through Paola’s stories, while walking around places tightly connected with her past.

However - beyond this charming narration – this experience revealed stories, feelings, disappointment, joy, hard times, agony and struggles of people wanting to love and to be loved in a place of “exile”, in the heart of city.

In the end, most of us wanted to have some coffee and continue our discussion. The dominant sense was, for most of us, the need to meet each other more – guided by the realization that behind and beyond dominant narrations regarding Omonia, there is much more: People and their lives.

Paola Revenioti is a trans woman, an activist for the rights of trans and gay, that in difficult times fought for public debate against their marginalization. She was editor of "Croak" magazine from 1982 to 1993, but this is only one aspect of her multifaceted personality. She has been working currently in "PaolaProjectTeam" documentary group.
